What is net worth?
Net worth = total assets − total liabilities. It is the single best snapshot of your financial position: what you would be left with if you sold everything you own and paid off every debt. Track it once a quarter and watch the trend, not just the number.
How is the financial health score calculated?
The score (0–100) blends up to six signals. Signals you leave blank are skipped and the rest are re-scaled.
- Debt-to-asset ratio (30 pts): full marks at 20% or lower, falling to zero when debts equal assets.
- Emergency fund (25 pts): the money you mark with 🛟 ÷ monthly expenses; 6 months or more scores full marks. Cash and bank balances count by default, and you can also count fixed deposits, liquid or debt funds if you would use them in an emergency.
- Growth assets (20 pts): share of assets in investments and retirement accounts; 50% or more scores full marks.
- Diversification (10 pts): penalises having more than half of your wealth in a single bucket (for most Indians, the home).
- EMI burden (10 pts): your monthly loan payments as a share of income; 30% or lower scores full marks and 60% scores zero.
- Age benchmark (15 pts): your net worth versus the rule-of-thumb target of age × annual income ÷ 10.
The score is an educational guide, not a rating from any bureau or a substitute for advice from a qualified planner.
What counts as an asset?
Include the current market value of bank balances, deposits, stocks, mutual funds, EPF/PPF/NPS balances, property, gold and vehicles. Use what you could realistically sell them for, not what you paid. Do not double-count a home: enter its value as an asset and the outstanding home loan as a liability.
Frequently asked questions
Is my data saved anywhere?
Only in your own browser (local storage) so the page remembers your entries next time. Nothing is ever uploaded. Use “Clear all” to wipe it.
Is my home part of my net worth?
Yes — it is usually the biggest asset. But it is illiquid, so the calculator separates liquid assets (cash, deposits, stocks, funds) from locked-in ones (home, EPF, gold).
Is a negative net worth bad?
It is common early in a career with an education or home loan. What matters is that the number is improving over time.
How can I increase my net worth faster?
Raise your savings rate, clear high-interest debt first, invest regularly for the long term, and keep 6 months of expenses as an emergency fund.
